Cathal, MacCathail.

Mac Cathail comes from the personal name Cathal. Cahill is one of the oldest recorded surnames in Ireland. There were several different clans of the name, located in Kerry, Galway, Tipperary and Clare. The Galway sept of the clan was initially very prominent, however their power declined, and the southern branches of the families flourished. The name is one of the 100 most numerous surnames in Ireland, and is number one in the province of Munster.

The hand knit Cahill sweater has a honeycomb central panel, flanked by double rope stitch, moss, chevron and honeycomb rope on either side. The honeycomb stitch symbolises work, moss stitch represents nature, and rope stitch is a form of cable, which represents good luck. This beautiful Aran sweater has been hand knitted in the traditional báinín (pronounced ‘baw neen’) colour, the natural white of the wool. It comes to you complete with a clan history and crest. It is made of 100% pure new wool, is water repellent and breathable. It has been hand crafted in the traditional Irish style, and, with care, will last a lifetime.
